needed a holding blog to keep recent finds by my students, my favorites from twitter links, resources that may not directly related to a current project and of course just more...

very good history of the letterform and bibliography.... We will begin where civilisation began, meander through the Middle Ages, race through the Renaissance, and in doing so discover where our alphabet originated, how and why it evolved, and why, for example, an A looks, well, like an A.

Cosas Mínimas (Minimal Things)
Cosas Mínimas (Minimal Things) is the personal portfolio of Madrid based illustrator and designer, Blanca Gómez. I’m in love with her illustrations. Every aspect of her style exhibits a sense of minimalism, from the simple geometric shapes, to the solid colors.

Zapf at Hallmark
The Art of Hermann Zapf from Johnny Dib on Vimeo.
Those of you who have had me as a professor know my dislike of Optima but that doesn't mean I don't think Herman Zapf is great (and I love Melior)... Back in the 1960’s and 70’s Hermann did several exclusive typefaces for Hallmark Cards. As a side project, Hallmark commissioned a video of Hermann explaining the basics of calligraphy and how he worked. This short but insightful film is perfect to wet the appetite of aspiring calligraphers. read more
